Languages Other Than English (LOTE) EC-12 Certification Testing Now Available For Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Vietnamese

The State Board for Educator Certification has approved the use of language examinations developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) for the Language Other Than English (LOTE) EC-12 certification. There are two ACTFL examinations that must be taken to meet certification requirements: the Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) and the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). Candidates in educator preparation programs (for initial certification) must also take the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-12 examination. Certified teachers will only take the OPI and WPT examinations.
