NOMINATIONS FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS SOUGHT
Nominations for Standards/Test Development Committees
The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) continues to seek your assistance
in forming new committees of practitioners and other stakeholders to guide
the development of educator standards.
We invite you to submit nominations of outstanding teachers, curriculum specialists,
and other administrators to serve on these standards committees. A pool of
potential committee members will be formed from these nominations, and committees
will then be selected from this pool based on position, affiliation, ethnicity,
gender, experience, and geographic representation. The proposed membership
of the standards committees will be approved by the SBEC Board during regularly
scheduled board meetings.
In addition to the new standards committees that will have been created, we
encourage you to nominate educators for numerous other committees. These committees
are at various stages in the development of new Texas Examinations of Educator
Standards (TExES) that are based on the state's curriculum for public school
students, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Membership on these committees is rotating. Although some of the original
committee members continue to participate throughout the entire test development
process, committee membership is rotated at various stages (e.g., framework
development and review, item review, and data review). This rotation promotes
more widespread input from educators around the state. These continuing committees
represent numerous content areas and certification levels.
We greatly value our committee members, their knowledge, hard work, and expertise.
Many educators from across the state have already served or are presently serving
on our committees.
Serving on a standards or test development committee supports the professional
growth of educators. Certificates of Completion are issued to participants
so that the documented hours for committee work sessions may be applied toward
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements for the Standard Certificate
renewal, which must be maintained by each educator who was certified in September
1999 or later. Additionally, travel expenses for committee members are reimbursed,
and hotel accommodations are provided. Substitute reimbursement for public
school educators is also available.
A committee nomination form is available
for downloading from SBEC's web site. Please use this form to recommend individuals
to participate on the standards development committees that will be convened
over the next several years. You may return the completed form to:
